NEW YORK -- Today, over 50,000 runners from across the globe will traverse the five boroughs as part of the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon.

Kenyan Sheila Chepkirui won the women's race in 2024 with a time of 2 hours, 24 minutes, and 35 seconds. She ran the New York City Marathon for the first time.
Chepkirui came in over 15 seconds ahead of Kenya's reigning champion Hellen Obiri.
Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands won the men's race in 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 39 seconds. In Central Park, he finished the race just six seconds ahead of Evans Chebet, the 2022 champion.

Marcel Hug's three-year winning streak ended when American Daniel Romanchuck won the men's wheelchair title. Romanchuck completed in 1 hour, 36 minutes, and 31 seconds. He also won the events in 2018 and 2019.
After placing third the previous year, American Susannah Scaroni won the women's wheelchair race for the second time. Scaroni finished in 1:48:05, over ten minutes ahead of third-place finisher Tatyana McFadden, another American.
For the first time, both wheelchair races were won by Americans.

How do 2024 winning times stack up against previous races?
With a time of 2 hours, 4 minutes, and 58 seconds, Ethiopian athlete Tamirat Tola smashed the previous record in the men's race last year. At 2:06:57, Kenyan Albert Korir crossed the finish line as the runner-up. At 2:07:11, Ethiopia's Shura Kitata came in third.
Obiri won the 2023 women's race and clocked in at 2:27:23. Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia was the runner-up, with a time of 2:27:29. Sharon Lokedi of Kenya came in 3rd at 2:27:33.
Hug and Catherine Debrunner won the 2023 men's and women's wheelchair races, respectively. Hug finished in 1 hour, 25 minutes, and 29 seconds. Debrunner's time was 1:39:32.
